Tips for Planning Pregnancy

If you know that children are in your future, planning pregnancy is usually a good idea. Planning pregnancy can be one of the best ways to ensure a healthy and safe pregnancy. While planning pregnancy, there are many things to consider.

The first thing you should do when planning pregnancy is visit with your OB/GYN. Let him know that you are planning pregnancy. Both of you should make sure that you are healthy. Planning pregnancy is less risky if you get pregnant within the recommended weight for your height. It is easier to get pregnant if you are not under- or overweight.

The next thing you should do when planning pregnancy is to stop all birth control pills about three months prior to wanting to get pregnant. This will allow the effect of the pills to leave your system. Birth control pills can affect the baby’s health, so making sure it is completely out of your system will help ensure a healthy baby.

When planning pregnancy, it is a good idea to start prenatal vitamins as soon as you decide that you want to get pregnant. Having the extra vitamins in your system will help you get the nutrients you need early and give your baby a head start in developing healthy. You can buy prenatal vitamins from your local grocery store. Once you get pregnant, have your doctor look at them to make sure that they have enough folic acid in them. Beware not to take vitamins above the recommended dosage, as it can be toxic to both you and the baby.

A good thing to do when planning pregnancy is to stop drinking alcohol and limit your caffeine intake. If you are a smoker, you need to quit right away. Smoking can cause low-birth-weight babies and has other negative effects on the baby. Also, if you are using any recreational drugs, you must stop immediately.

When planning pregnancy, money always figures into the equation. It is always better to be financially secure. However, you cannot plan for everything. There is always going to be something that is going to require money. While you can try to prevent money problems from occurring, when money is involved there is never going to be the “perfect” time. Regardless, there are many things to consider. Daycare can be extremely expensive. If you decide to stay home with your child, decide which spouse should stay home and how you are going to survive financially on one income. Also, factor in diapers, formula and baby food. These can add up to six hundred dollars extra per month in grocery bills.

Everyone wants a healthy happy baby. Planning pregnancy is a great way to start off a wonderful new experience. Having a baby will change your life forever. With good planning, pregnancy can be a stress-free way to starting the next phase of your life.
